Despite all forecasts and weather predictions, yesterday’s Moncton Golf Tournament was played under all almost ideal conditions. Although the weather threatened, the 40 golf teams were treated to warm temperatures, gentle breezes and even a little sunshine.
Emerging victorious in this years event was the team for LVM Maritime Testing with a score of 59, 11 under par . Golfing in the winning group was Scott Fisher, Brad Cross, Neil Black and Greg Close. These guys are repeat winners from 2012 when they were registered under Global Mechanical.
Other winners were Jeff Smith (Hewitt Rentals) and Annette Keough (Lead Structural Formwork) for men’s and ladies’ longest drive. They took home gift certificates from Ritchie’s Carpets valued at $250. Mike Arsenault (Edgeline Construction) was the men’s closest to the pin while Wendy Falkner (RCS Construction) was chosen winner from a draw of all ladies competitors. Their prizes were rolling cooler bags donated by Fransyl.
Several door prizes were up for grabs with the biggest winner being Janet O’Blenis (Economy Glass) whose number was drawn for the Old Town canoe provided by Evolution Roofing. Other door prizes were donated by Lead Structural Formwork, Southampton Computers, DPT Communications, Hewitt Rentals/Cat Rental Store and Kent Mobile Shelters. The Master Group and Comfort Inn also drew for prizes for contests at their hole.
Moncton Northeast’s Building for the Future Fund was a huge beneficiary of the tournament. This event is used as a major fund raiser for the Fund with surcharges applied to registrations and sponsorships, with $4100 going into the Fund from these sources. In addition, $623 was raised through the putting contest.
Another big winner at the event was Crossroads for Women. Tickets were sold on a 42″ TV provided by Kent Mobile Shelters with $1000 raised for this shelter for women who are in the midst of a major fund raising drive to build a new facility. The lucky winner was Hollie Matchett (Scotia Insulations).

Next year’s event is scheduled for September 11, while the Northern Members’ tournament at Gowan Brae in Bathurst will be held June 13.
