The weather gods “shone” down on the Moncton Northeast “Moncton” Golf Tournament played on September 17. Record breaking temperatures and sunny skies greeted golfers as they teed off at Lakeside Golf & Country Club. These conditions made for some excellent scores. For the second time in the tournament’s history two teams were tied for the win with a score of 57, 13 shots under par. The two teams were Global Mechanical (Greg Close, Brad Cross, Neil Black and Scott Fisher) and MacLennan Sales/Ipex (Jim Duplisea, Mike O’Blenes, Damien Monk and Paul Dixon). Gobal Mechanical are repeat winners of the tournament.
There were two longest drive competitions, the winners of the first, sponsored by Cansel at hole #4, were Giles Beland (Bowser’s Construction) and Andrée Losier (Acadian Construction). Their prizes were $125 certificates from the Lakeside Golf & Country Club. The second Longest Drive competition was on hole #9 with Curtis Foran (Xylem Water Solutions) and Karen Belliveau (CGC Inc) taking home certificates from Ritchie’s Carpet Warehouse valued at $250. Billy Belding (EnviroBate) was the only closest to the pin winner with none of the women competitors landing on the green. The women’s prize was drawn as a door prize and was won by Andrée Losier (Acadian Construction). These prizes were $75 certificates for The Keg donated by the Construction Association of New Brunswick.
There were several door prizes up for grabs with the biggest winner being Kevin Higgins (Royal Door) whose number was drawn for the patio set and fire pit provided by Evolution Roofing. Peter Meunier (Del Moon Construction) took home an Apple TV plus some other goodies donated by BSM Services. Agway Metals gave the tournament a Calloway Golf Bag which was won by Jacques LeBlanc (Atlantic Roofers). John Allan (EnviroBate) will be able to take some friends golfing as he won four golf passes from Lakeside donated by Lakeside and MacArthur’s Paving & Construction. Rodd Hotels & Resorts provided an accommodations certificate which was won by Matt Carreau (Acadian Construction). Yves Bradet (Atlantic Roofers) had his number drawn for a $75 card for NB Liquor purchases which was donated by AGB. Comfort Inn/Westmont Hospitality had their own door prize of an accommodation certificate which was won by Chris Barnett (Advanced Energy Management).
Moncton Northeast’s Building for the Future Fund was a beneficiary of the nice weather and the generosity of participating golfers. AGB provided a Taylor Made golf set including a bag and a full set of clubs valued at $1895 which went to Silent Auction with Mike O’Blenes (Birch Hill Construction) inking the highest bid of $1000. The Funny Putting contest also raised $600 for the Building for the Future Fund. This combined with the surcharge which was applied to golfers and sponsors registration saw almost $5500 going into the Fund. The Fund is used to provide grants to local high schools to purchase consumables for their construction vocational programs.
Another big winner at the event was Crossroads for Women. Tickets were sold on an Apple iPad Mini provided by Kent Mobile Shelters with $940 raised for this shelter for women who are in the midst of a major fund raising drive to build a new facility. The lucky winner was Luc Allain (Fundy Pros).
